World Cities Culture Report 2018 – Tokyo Tokyo

The most comprehensive report ever published about culture and the role it plays in shaping life in major cities worldwide has been launched at the 2018 World Cities Culture Summit held 14-16 November.  The World Cities Culture Report 2018 is based on extensive data and practice research to reveal how 35 major global cities, including Tokyo, are in the vanguard of policymaking.

The report profiles the trends and innovative practices of each of the World Cities Culture Forum member cities, including Tokyo, noting the Tokyo Tokyo Festival cultural programme organised by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As well as being an international cultural hub, Tokyo’s identity encompasses many local identities including neighbourhoods such as Asakusa, Akihabara, Harajuku and Shibuya which have distinctive cultural characteristics.

The report can be read in full at the WCCF website.

The World Cities Culture Forum consists of 35 global cities, convened to share research and intelligence, and explore the vital role of culture in their future prosperity. Tokyo was a founding member of the forum at its inaugural summit during London 2012.
