Ahead of hosting the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, this summer Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) published the ‘Tokyo Tech Book’. Compiled by the TMG Technology Council, the Tech Book aims to aims to showcase Tokyo’s world-class technologies and enhance the presence of the city globally, contributing to resolving challenges faced by cities not only in Japan, but also overseas.
The book covers TMG-held technologies and expertise that address urban challenges in the four fields of: infrastructure, disaster preparedness, the environment, and welfare and industry. A wide range of measures related to urban planning and roads, port facilities, water supply and sewerage systems, fire and rescue techniques and environmental measures are outlined.
As Tokyo Governor Masuzoe writes in his introduction to the book:
“More effective solutions to issues shared among large metropolises can become possible by having cities with experience and expertise cooperate and learn from each other. For cities to work together in solving common urban issues will also help build friendship and sustainable win-win relations.”
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Technology Council was established in 1992 to exchange views on important and urgent challenges faced by TMG from a technical perspective. The council also studies and reviews matters such as maintaining and raising the level of technology, how to secure, cultivate, and utilize technicians, as well as other required topics.
