In July City, University of London took part in the Lord Mayor of London’s visit to Tokyo, which aimed to develop closer links between the financial and professional services sectors in both cities. As part of the visit, City signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tokyo Metropolitan University.
Following from the visit City will host a visit from senior officials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Metropolitan University. As part of their visit, Yuriko Koike, the first female Governor of Tokyo and Dr Haruo Shimada, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees have kindly agreed to give a talk.
Governor Koike will share her vision for Tokyo as it prepares to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This will focus on her financial and environmental policies and the opportunities for collaboration between Tokyo and London. Through this, she will share her insights on the challenges facing women in Japanese politics.
Dr Haruo Shimada will speak about the history of mutual co-operation between Japan and the UK and the importance of cooperation between the respective capital cities.
