Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne met with JET Programme participants from the UK during his recent visit to Japan to boost business ties, and follow up on the Foreign Secretary’s commitment to deepening UK-Japan relations.
During his three-day visit, from 9 to 11 September, Jeremy Browne spent a day in Tokyo before travelling to Osaka. It was his first trip to Japan since his appointment as a Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in May.
In Osaka the Minister joined a gathering of Japanese investors and researchers, met with participants of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET), and took part in a discussion with senior Japanese academic representatives, to follow up on the Foreign Secretary’s commitment to develop UK-Japan collaboration in higher education.
The breakfast meeting with the four UK JETs was organised by the British Council in Japan.
Speaking during his visit, Minister Browne spoke about the importance of UK-Japan relations.

Now in its 24th year, the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) programme has placed over 50,000 participants from over 50 countries in positions throughout Japan. The JET Programme, an official Japanese Government scheme, sends graduates to promote international understanding at a grass-roots level and to improve foreign language teaching in schools.
