The Guardian: ‘innovative partnerships’ and ‘rebuilding communities’ – articles on Fukushima’s recovery

JLGC’s Japan Study Tour 2017 has resulted in two more articles on the Guardian Public Leaders Network and Housing Network websites, written by Guardian networks editor and participant on the JST trip to Tokyo and Iwaki Jane Dudman.

The first article (‘After Fukushima: the tenants rebuilding a destroyed community’) looks at housing issues after the tsunami in 2011, while the second (‘Japan’s post-tsunami recovery plan: tomatoes, fish and hula-dancing’) is on economic revitalisation policies introduced by the regional level government of Fukushima Prefecture.

Japan Study Tour is a seven-day research trip looking at local government policy in the regions of Japan, starting off with an introduction to the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR, JLGC’s parent organisation) and the role it plays in international activities and representing Japan’s local authorities overseas. The tour then moves on to a host prefecture, every year on the theme of the areas in policy the host prefecture is introducing and developing.

Details of the tour for 2018 will be available on the JLGC website later in the year. To receive details when applications are open, including the application process, sign up to JLGC’s e-newsletter on the office’s website main page here.
