FY2016 International Workshop On Acceptance Of Foreign Nationals And Their Integration Into Japan

– Toward an Intercultural Society: Focusing on Life and Active Participation of Foreign Women in Japan

Tokyo Women’s Plaza Hall, 5-53-67 Jingu-mae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo

People to people exchange is becoming increasingly important in this globalizing world. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes that every one of 2.3 million foreign nationals residing in Japan for work, study, or their families, enjoys the Japanese society, acts as bridges connecting Japan and their countries, and gains deeper understanding of Japanese culture.

The 8th Annual Workshop, co-hosted with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), is focusing on “Foreign Women” as this year’s theme. With more active and greater roles for women expected, such as the introduction of the Act on Promotion of Women’s Participation and Advancement in the Workplace, this workshop aims to discuss how foreign women contribute to the Japanese society through their active participation, from their experiences and perspectives as well as their supporters. The presentation and discussion by the foreign women based on their engagement and participation in various fields will provide insight into the challenges and needs of foreign residents in the Japanese society. The experience of the women drawn at this workshop will show just a simple communication and consideration for others can help to close the gap between the Japanese society and foreign residents, and provide an opportunity to build better relationships for all.

Organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan and International Organization for Migration (IOM), this event is supported by Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR).
