The growth of city diplomacy as a networked public diplomacy activity is being closely examined more and more, especially in relation to common environmental and sustainabilty challenges experienced by all metropolitan areas.
A report by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies seeks to apply the lessons learnt from regional intercity networks on policies and technologies for sustainable cities in Asia. Furthermore, it seeks to present ideas on how to develop and utilise the networks more effectively so that local governments in Asian developing countries and Japan as well as network secretariats could harness their opportunities. The networks in Asia discussed include CITYNET, ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, Kitakyushu Initiative for a Clean Environment and the Asia-Pacific Eco-business Forum.
