Anglo-Japanese Local Governance Study Visits

All staff of JLGC were fortunate to attend two days of lectures this week at the Institute of Local Government Studies of the University of Birmingham. Monday’s session, led by Professor Tony Bovaird, covered ‘From Performance Management in local government and its legacy to new forms of council management and service provision’, while on Tuesday Ian Briggs gave a comprehensive talk on ‘Local Government after the elections: The UK Coalition Government: policy directives for UK local government: ruptures and change of emphasis’.

The sessions, which combined policy material and opinion exchange on contrasts between UK and Japanese local governance, will hopefully be taken forward in the future as part of an on-going policy dialogue between the two countries aimed at embedding international learning as part of the local government studies discipline.
