Just one day after the final event of its inaugural London Borough of Culture 2019, Waltham Forest’s ‘Psychogeographer in Residence’ John Rogers spoke to Japanese officials at JLGC on the use of such year-long festivals to promote local areas and the role of social media and promotional videos to better leverage place assets.
John’s presentation covered how London Borough of Culture and his role within it was responsible for: engaging people with hidden aspects of place, local history, folklore, and culture • providing an ‘experience’ • celebrating the everyday • entertaining, enlightening, having fun • something to take-away – information, artefacts (e.g. maps)
JLGC holds a regular Speaker Series, where outside experts address staff from the centre and other Japanese public bodies in London.
