The following resolution was passed at the Commonwealth Local Government Forum conference in Cardiff, held March 15-18:
We, the representatives of local government throughout the 54 countries of the Commonwealth, meeting at the Commonwealth Local Government Conference, express our sincere and heartfelt condolences at the recent tragic events in New Zealand and Japan. Many of our Commonwealth communities have strong links with Japan, and New Zealand is one of our members. We recognise the role of local governments in dealing with the recovery effort and long term rebuilding of communities affected by the disasters. CLGF and its partners urge local governments across the world to pledge their support at this difficult time.
